Why You May Need a Skincare Stash and How to Build It.

Let’s quickly start with what exactly a skincare stash is (to me, that is). A skincare stash is a collection of skincare amassed for the sake of always having skincare on hand. A bit much? I don’t think so. I am an ‘always prepared’ kinda girl and my skincare is not a matter I exclude from this.  

Now you ask, ‘Ij, why do I need a skincare stash?’ Let me tell you why I have one and it might just inspire you to also have.

As I said, I like to be prepared. I don’t enjoy running out of what my skin needs. I feel it can back track results I am experiencing. In fact, one of my clients has suffered because of this. She ran out of skincare and became complacent for a bit too long before she replenished her skincare. Her skin suffered for it.

I can also be quite the home bug and considering the current times we are in (the pandemic of 2020), rushing to the store in a panic is just not my style.

I , like every other beauty lover, enjoy the ‘newness’ of a new product. Having a skincare stash gives me that little buzz that a new product gives me without actually going shopping.  It’s also great when I go on little shopping bans. I don’t feel deprived because highly likely I have what I need.

Admittedly, being a skin influencer does give me license to have a large skincare collection. I love trying new products, not just for myself but for YOU , my audience.

Last but not least, though this happens rarely, if I have a sudden skin issue, I have something in my skincare stash that can help me sort it out. (Fingers crossed, that is!)  

Now that I have explained my ‘why’, lets get into the ‘how’!  

This is not about blind buying! Know what ingredients your skin thrives from and you can use this knowledge to stock up on products that you know your skin loves. Though they all don’t have to be from the same brand, knowing what ingredients to focus on will help you make sensible buying decisions.  

Sign up to newsletters of your favorite skincare brands. When they are having a sale ( and you can afford to!) , grab a few of your favorite products. A clever beauty lover always knows where some pennies can be saved!  

When making skincare orders, try and think a few months into the future about what you could possibly need. I go back to what I am always saying. Knowing your skin type, the ingredients your skin loves and your lifestyle are important in making big skincare purchases.  The seasonal changes and how it affects skin could also influence such a purchase. This will ensure that you will reduce the likelihood of wasting your money. Another bonus of making large skincare order is the possibility of free shipping! Oh and samples!  

Buy your staples in doubles!  We all have skincare that we trust and use over and over. Why deny yourself what you know you will use?  

I repeat. This is not about blind buying. If you know, you are one to get carried away with the purchase button or even forget what is in your stash (this can be me sometimes), keep an inventory. This way, you don’t have too much of a particular product or not enough of a particular product. 

Confession time! This last tip was inspired by the fact that I have too many moisturizers and balms in my stash. And that’s not what I want for your skincare stash. Let your stash be practical and reflective of conscious shopping
