The Tea on Morning Masking

Let’s start this blog post in a very random fashion. All these ‘cool’ words we use…..Do you ever think how dated they will sound in the future? Or will they never go out of fashion? I know, random but I am sticking with the title of this blog because tea belongs in most mornings. So do skincare masks.

Let’s go back a little bit first, for the sake of context. I am a daily masker. Sometimes, I will mask twice a day. I know, cool right?!? I have said this many a time, my skincare is a part of my self-care tool kit so being a daily masker absolutely makes sense to me. Earlier this year, I started a skincare masking series on my YouTube channel. The first video is an in-depth review of 5 masks, interlaced with some tips to maximize your masking ways.

In this said first video, I mentioned masking in the morning and I felt it needed its own video. Said video is soon to be published on my channel but! When I was editing it, I had a few moments of ‘ah, I wish I said this…or that’. Then I thought, why not write a blog post? So here we are!

  1. I wish to stress the significance of the statement, ‘ I don’t have time to mask’. Make time for yourself, my darling. Slow down. There is ALWAYS time and if you truly feel like there is no time for you to look after yourself ( and this is far bigger than just a face mask) , then it is time to go to the drawing board and address how you are living. You deserve better. Especially if you are a woman. ESPECIALLY if you are a black woman #isaidwhatisaid

  2. I mentioned applying my face mask THEN carrying on with my morning routine. So, what is my morning routine? Housewifery business, LOL. I am a housewife and over the years, I have found that doing the bulk of my household tasks in the morning, before I shower, works best for me. So when I am morning masking, I am not seated in my robes sipping tea. I am working around my home, sipping tea with a face mask on. Talk about top notch multi tasking! LOL. I say this to give you context and to inspire you to make morning skincare work for you. Think about your morning routine and see where you can squeeze in your masking moment.

  3. I suggested a gentle exfoliating mask to start a soothing healing process if you wake up with unhappy skin but! I would actually prefer it if you went in with a hydrating or a moisturising mask. Supporting the skin’s moisture barrier with moisture and hydration is a great and UNDERRATED tactic to soothe unhappy skin. It is so easy to want to go straight in for the kill and apply exfoliants to the skin in a hope to quickly banish blemishes but hydrating and moisturising the skin well is a part of supporting it in its healing process.

  4. I probably don’t need to say this but to be on the safe side, clay masks in the morning belong to those who live in the ministry of oiliness. No one else. ESPECIALLY, if you have dry skin! But yet again, you know your skin best. You may be dry yet have acne-prone skin and have a gentle clay mask that you know and trust. The drying and cleansing nature of clay is what I wish to highlight here. Consider this fact, your skintype and how your skin typically behaves during the day before attempting a clay mask in your skincare morning routine.

That’s that! I will end this blog post as I end my videos……

Thank you so much for being here. My name is Ijeoma and I will see you soon!
