The Midnight Blue
This is a ‘difficult’ blog post to write. There are layers. Lots to explain. And that’s what makes the Midnight Blue blog post worthy.
Let’s start with product comparisons. They are valid and necessary when it comes to beauty consumption but it can get a bit dicey when one of the strongest differences between compared products is the price point. When I discovered the Midnight Blue from Dames & Dimes, I immediately thought of the Blue Cocoon from May Lindstrom. Oh, the Blue Cocoon, a product that I have watched like a patient lottery player. Whether I would ever get it into my hands or not is not quite the issue for me. Its existence and knowing how many people [particularly skincare influencers that I really respect] love it is almost enough for me. The Blue Cocoon is so meeeeee. Exquisite potent ingredients. Made to soothe and support the skin. Elegant packaging. A star within a brand that makes my style of skincare. Triple sigh.
So when I saw the Midnight Blue, I thought, oh….it may not be THE big win but it may just STILL be a win.

LOVE AT FIRST USE. BLOWN AWAY.
My longing for the Blue Cocoon faded quickly over the weeks of using the Midnight Blue [ let’s not get it twisted. I remain open to experiencing the Blue Cocoon. In fact, the small pot will do] and a solid love affair began. I have called it one of the most impactful bits of skincare I have ever met in my life. Utterly incredible. Its scent is so calming and luxurious to me. I reach for it when I want to treat the skin. When I need to soothe the skin. When I need to treat or soothe MYSELF. A soft almost airy balm that melts with immediate skin contact. As a balm lover, who has tried very MANY balms, the Midnight Blue comes to the top EASILY. I love it so much that I would love the brand to do a limited edition collection inspired by it…..a body oil, a body scrub, a body BUTTER, an oil-based clay mask….a girl can dream….
Enough of the romance. Let’s talk about ingredients. If you care, apart from one component, the entire ingredient deck is organic. The ingredient deck is thoughtful, featuring some of my favorites such as shea butter, baobab oil, and pumpkin seed oil. What sets the Midnight Blue apart from the rest of the class is the blue tansy. Blue tansy is a POWERHOUSE. An antioxidant-rich, bacteria-busting, soothing, healing type of ingredient. And that’s my type of skincare language. The blue tansy is also the star ingredient in the Blue Cocoon which what intitailly begins the notion of being comparable to the Midnight Blue.
With all that being said, I have highlighted the Blue Cocoon enough to sound like I simply settled for the Midnight Blue. But yet I can genuinely say I don’t feel like I settled. I have simply honoured one of my beauty ethics and that is to consume beauty within my environment. I have not and will probably not go looking for skincare in international water. It makes no sense to me. As I am currently living in Britain and actively focusing on British independent skincare, I feel like I have won BIG with the Midnight Blue
