How To Find The Right Skin Influencer For YOU and Your Skin!

Strange blog post, right?! But before I write out anything, a lot of thought and observation goes into it. The more popular AND relevant the skin influencer becomes, the more is expected of them. More and more people are asking skin influencers questions about their skin health and routines. AND they are choosing the opinions of skin influencers over brands and even professionals in the skincare industry.  We are truly living in incredible times. We are being constantly reminded that we have power over who teaches and what we choose to learn …. 2020 is utterly epic.

I digress….

So! Since we are taking the ideas and advice of skin influencer in regards to our skin, let me share my top tips on how to find the right influencer for your skin!

  1. Birds of a feather! It is rather obvious that gravitating towards those who have similar skin types and concerns as yourself makes common sense. You have common ground already!

  2. Across the table! There is ALWAYS something to learn from someone who sits on the opposite spectrum of where we are. I will give you an example. I have combination skin of oily and normal type. I do get congested with blackheads and whiteheads and can get dehydrated. Breakouts are far and few. Aging gracefully is also important to me. This has led me to follow those with oiler skin types than me. They deal with more congestion than me so I have learned so much from them. I also follow older skin types because aging gracefully is top of my list. I follow drier skin types because it is they who taught me the importance of hydration and moisture to the skin. I also follow different skin types for the sake of my own education as a fellow skin influencer. From eczema to chronic acne, I leave myself completely open to learning. Of course, you don't have to go as far as me, but take into consideration what you can learn from those who are on the opposite spectrum of your skin type.

  3. Create a reality you love! Following a skin influencer who has a healthy, realistic and somewhat open relationship with their skin is a part of dismantling the ridiculous standards for perfect skin ( within the beauty industry and yourself!)  and an important part of your mental health. To complain about these impossible and biased beauty standards and THEN to go and follow influencers who uphold these so-called standards and use their beauty privilege to further perpetuate these standards is a failure to yourself. Remember what we are talking about. INFLUNCEING! Who we choose to follow is a reflection of ourselves.

Now go forth and find the right influencer for you! You hold a lot of power. Be mindful of what you do with it.
