Let’s Revolutionize Our Beauty Routine! 6 Things That I Am Doing (And That You Could Do) For Your Beauty Routine In 2021

Its February. Listen, the Africans will still wish you a happy new year and since I am an African, I wish you a happy new year.

It’s 2021. We are still in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. Such a transformative time we are living in and beauty has not been left untouched. Influencers are becoming a force to be reckoned with. Beauty ideals are being questioned, broken down, and being created. We are more in love with skincare. Matte makeup is taking a break ( finally, lol). Things are changing and I like it! I have been thinking about what I want my beauty story to look like this year and these are the five things that I am doing to change things up!

  • I am absolutely and positively choosing to focus on brands that mirror and honor my image. I am an African woman with thick hair. We all know how that image is treated in the beauty industry. Well, this year, I am not begging to be seen or catered to. I am simply focusing on brands that are interested in me. I implore you to do the same! There is power in ignorance as there is in awareness and acceptance!

  • I am wearing fragrances every day and every moment. EVEN TO BED. Gone are the days of waiting for special occasions to wear fragrance. Living in the now is one of the biggest lessons of the pandemic and I also decided that I AM the special occasion. Self-love on steroids is good for the soul. Go on...DOOOOO ITTTT!

  • I am going to be more honest with myself about how much I spend on beauty. The beauty industry has a way of sweet-talking us into the idea that we can just spend whatever whenever. Unless you have an unlimited beauty budget, this is not the reality for most beauty lovers. This year, I am seeking a little bit more accountability in my beauty expenses! I invite you to take a step back. Look at your entire beauty lifestyle. Can you spend less or even more? What will spending less money mean for you? And what will spending more money mean for you? The primary focus of this exercise is accountability, peace, and joy.

  • This tip is for those with large beauty collections like me. DECLUTTER. LET IT GO. LOL. This year, I am systematically going through my collection. Letting go of things I need to let go of and prioritizing using products that I know should be finished. Declutters are great and important to the beauty collector. It helps us keep on top of things, randomly gift friends and family and teach us about what we really buy to use or buy because of the magpie within us. By the way, this systematic declutter and use of products may slow down beauty buying for you. Just saying

  • The last one is for the adventurer. This year I am considering getting into retinol. Not because I am getting older but I simply love to try new things. We will see. I need to consult with some of my influencer buddies who are deep in their retinol journeys. Retinol is an ingredient that needs a ton of research and preparation.  So I invite you to try something new in your beauty, be it a new ingredient or a new makeup item or style.

  • I have also decided to pay more attention to the skin on my neck and chest. Now I am a good girl and I do take my skincare to these areas of my body BUT! I want to be more intentional. Maybe have specific products just for them and no, I don’t believe in neck and chest skincare. Skincare is skincare. We will see. I will definitely keep you updated.

Here is to living in the now. Here is to 2021

PS: I love the beauty affirmation that I have pinned on this blog post. Do we loooove?
