Dannii
I am a makeup artist. Falling in love with faces is what I do. It’s a part of my craft. What accelerates this love is when the one who sits in my chair has self love. That kind of thing shows, you know. An unapologetic acceptance of self. It is truly a thing of beauty.
This year I met Dannii. Dannii is one of those women who has always been told all her life, ‘You should be a model’ ‘You are really beautiful. Are you a model?’ and all those other comments we all have passed on to exceptionally beautiful humans. She decided 2019 was the year she was going to turn this into a reality. Please note, I didn’t say TRY. I said GOING TO. It was her steely determination and assured fire that drew me to her.
Usually when I first meet models, I like to take a slightly laid back and fluid approach. Go with the flow as the cool kids say. I allocate 3 hours to my first meeting with models. A simple look is created which I then photograph. During the creative session, I allow the conversation to organically grow and this is the point where I decide whether a long term relationship will be established between the model and I. Most models are fine with this approach but Danni had other ideas. She suggested we work the whole day and create three looks. She had just begun creating her portfolio and had given herself the summer to do so. I was impressed. Slightly taken aback to be honest but I was ready and willing. Once again, I remind you the cool kids say we should go with the flow.
The day went exceptionally well. Her work ethic shone bright and as we looked at the camera reel at the end of the day, we knew we had done well. The months have passed and the bond between artist and model has grown. We have created some exceptionally good work showcasing both our talents. We have learnt so much from each other and have used that knowledge in both of our crafts.
Dannii is definitely one of the highlights of 2019. That is why my first blog post is about her. That is why she graces my website home page. Here is to Dannii.
